Canto natalizio molto popolare: il testo è stato scritto nel 1719 da Isaac Watts ispirandosi ai Salmi di Davide (salmo 98 Santo è il Signore Dio nostro) la melodia deriva da "Antiochia" dell'americano Lowell Mason composta nel 1848 (che lui dice di aver arrangiato dal Messiah G.F Handel, ma è più corretto dire dal quale ha tratto ispirazione)
